Evergreen Terrace-Almost Home
Metal Blade
September 29, 2009
Evergreen Terrace is a band that I've enjoyed ever since the release of Burned Alive by Time, but they also seem to be one of those bands that I completely forget about in between album releases. Sometimes their name will pop in my head when I'm watching "The Simpsons" (which is often), but it flies away just as quickly. Just because they're not always on the tip of my brain doesn't mean that my body goes numb as I listen to their music. Quite contrary, in fact, as they continue to release solid albums, with Almost Home being their strongest to date.
Though their melodic metal hardcore style hasn't changed since their first release, the song writing has become more powerful, adding some extra punk flare that previous work didn't have. The vocals are still sometimes screamed and sometimes sung, but the majority of the vocals seem to be a raw growl, which gives them a strong edge and something that sets them apart from the bands that have overrun the style. Evergreen Terrace prove on this album that they are at the top of their game, the top of their genre, and quite possibly soon: the top of everything.
