The flu is not a very fun thing to have, especially when it means missing Neko Case because of it. On the bright side, ALL is playing The Middle East in Cambridge, MA on January 6 with Off With Their Heads. Off With Their Heads are also touring with Brutal Truth, Municipal Waste and Phobia, on their way to prove that they can fit in with everyone.

People suck and can do terrible things to their peers sometimes. Remember that.

In lighter news, NFL football kicks off today (Thursday's game didn't count, in my opinion-and I'm actually trying to forget that that day ever happened, though that has nothing to do with football). My predictions are all hand written in a notebook (with potential team records), and hopefully that will get posted to the site along wtih everything else I'm behind on. I wish your team the best of luck.

I constantly need to apologize for not updating this site as much as I should. My computer did break, but everything is fixed now and I'm hoping to get my act together, which includes updating this site regularly, sharing my passion for music with anyone on the net willing to read about it. My fingers are crossed.
August 31, 2009
I'm sure you know about these already, but I would be doing a disservice to people if I didn't post these awesome downloads. The kind people at Suburban Home have posted Drag the River's Live at the Starlight for free. My computer hasn't let me download it for some reason, but I'd bet the bank that its a great listen. Plus, you can't beat that price.
Also, check out "Black Crosses,"the new song from the highly influential Strung Out. The song is fast and technical, and Jason Cruz' voice sounds stronger than it has in awhile. Agents of the Underground drops September 29, 2009 on Fat.
July 12, 2009
Things are hopefully calming down and I'll be able to start updating the site more often. I was just at Warped Tour today, and a review should be posted soon, along with some reviews, interviews and the second Quarterly Review. The thing that worries me is the fact that my computer may be on the way out. If that happens, updates to the site will be on hold for a little bit. Here's hoping that doesn't happen.
June 28, 2009
Absolutely nothing new was posted in the past three weeks. I've been working nearly around the clock, suffered a concussion and spent a week house sitting at my sister's house, which prevented me from making any updates. My goal is to have at least one album review up by the end of the week, and hopefully an interview and the second Quarterly Review. Keep your fingers crossed.
June 7, 2009
I apologize for the lack of postings. Its camp season, so I'll be working tirelessly from now until July 31. Even though my time will be dedicated to camp, I will still be going to shows and interviewing bands. I have interviews with Pepper, Straylight Run and Good Old War that need to be transposed, and I'm hoping to have more soon. Some album reviews may trickle in as well, along with a Snippet or two. Please be patient and click around the different sections to see what's new.
May 12, 2009
I'm going through all of my old Emails right now, so a lot more updates and interviews may be in the works.

To anyone that's ever squeezed out a baby or had their stomach cut open and a baby ripped out of them, Happy Mother's Day! Without a mother, The Playlist wouldn't be here, for better or worse.
May 7, 2009
Check out Straylight Run's Myspace page for a new song and the chance to download "Drain You." Worth your time.
May 7, 2009
Yesterday welcomed Matthew Ryan Johnson into this world. At 7.9 pounds, he looks like a baby should. He's not as much fun as my other nephew, Dylan, who is more playful (newborns sleep a lot), but he's a cute little guy. I find it funny that my sister and brother-in-law get their names from Atlanta Falcons' quarterbacks (their dog is named Vick).
May 2, 2009
Conducting interviews has seemed damn near impossible this year. Every one scheduled has fallen through, usually by my own accord. I was supposed to interview Black President tonight, but my sister is on the verge of labor (making me a two time uncle and first time Godfather in the process) and I had to stay home on nephew duty. I'm supposed to be interviewing Nightmare of You tomorrow, but that all depends on the upcoming birth.
May 2, 2009
Speaking of being a Godfather, I highly suggest watching "The Godfather" saga. All three are worthy of the ten plus hours it will take away from your life. Time well spent. Francis Ford Coppola is the man (also see "The Outsiders").
April 26, 2009
Listen to Classics of Love. You won't be disappointed.
April 26, 2009
I guess I lied about the articles that would be getting posted earlier in the month. They will be on the site one day, and that is pretty much a promise.
April 24, 2009
After picking up Coaster by NOFX on Tuesday, make sure to be careful when taking the CD out of its case. My copy broke as I did this a few minutes ago, leaving me yearning to hear this album, even though it can be heard on Myspace.
April 13, 2009
Getting posted this week will be my "Annual Though Usually Somewhat Wrong 2009 Baseball Predictions," "2009 First Quarter Review," and "The Top 25 Albums That Have Impacted My Life." These are all mostly written, and they'll be posted once they get typed.
March 29, 2009
Check out a new NOFX song, "The Quitter," here: here. I've had a long and tiring weekend, so all I can say is that its a good song; I just wish it were faster.
March 23, 2009
I just didn't say when.
March 16, 2009
More Snippets coming soon...
March 2, 2009
Things this week that I learned certain bands are doing that I find particularly admirable: Sharks Come Cruisin' have a designated driver incentive at their shows. If you're the designated driver and can pass a sobriety test at the end of the show, then your ticket price will be refunded. This is especially commendable considering their style of sea shanty punk rock brings a huge drinking crowd.
Also, people that are part of Jimmy Buffett's
fanclub have to do fundraising or community service every year to get a first dibs crack at his concert tickets. While they still have to pay up the ass for them, its a nice gesture to say the least.
February 16, 2009
For someone that likes blood and guts, Travis Barker's surgery blog is a must see. The thing I find most amazing is that he's having surgery on one of the few parts of his skin that doesn't seem to be tattooed.
February 16, 2009
Converge will be entering the studio in March to begin recording their follow up to the outstanding No Heroes. The album will eventually drop on Epitaph, and according to Deathwish publicist, Nicole Hollis-Vitale, who has heard the demos: "you're currently jealous."
February 9, 2009
Always the forward thinkers, Propagandhi have "released" two songs from Supporting Caste, which comes out on March 10 via G7 Welcoming Committee/Smallman Records. Instead of giving them away for free or letting people pick their price, that in turn would go to the band, fans get to choose from three causes Propagandhi supports and donate money towards one of them in turn for the two songs. The causes are Sea Shephard Conservation Society, Partners in Health (the one I donated to), and PETA 2. The most they're asking for is $10 (though you can donate as little as $1), which may seem like a lot of money for two songs, but Propagandhi are doing something more important than just the music.
February 9, 2009
I don't know why I haven't listened to these songs before, but the two songs Thursday have previewed thus far are really good. "Friends in the Armed Forces" is kind of dancy, but done in a post hardcore way that Thursday damn near brought to the masses. "Resuscitation of a Dead Man" is probably the most emotionally powerful Thursday song since "Understanding in a Car Crash." Common Existance drops next Tuesday on Epitaph.
February 8, 2009
Does anyone know why the Cleveland Cavaliers wore Laker colors today when they played the Lakers? It was an odd thing to see, but a good thing since they lost (the only time I've rooted for the Lakers).
January 26, 2009
I'm digging the posted songs from Two Tongues, who are releasing their debut album February 3 via Vagrant Records. I dig the vibe and the duel vocals of Chris Conley and Max Bemis works tremendously well. This is an album that will be attaching itself to a lot of peoples' ears.
January 19, 2009
Good luck Barack Obama. I challenge all McCain fans and/or Obama haters to wake up tomorrow with an open mind. At least give the man a chance.
January 19, 2009
Speaking of Obama, the HBO Special, "We Are One Obama Inaugural Celebration at the Lincoln Memorial," is as moving as its title is long. Pete Seeger (with the help of Bruce Springsteen and Seeger's grandson) leading the crowd in Woody Guthrie's "This Land is Your Land" was touching, and Beyonce's "America the Beautiful" follow up was just as good. It seemed a little too much and a little "too Hollywood," but it also gave me a sense of Patriotism that I hadn't had in a long time. I hope it doesn't fade.
January 18, 2009
Stolen from the postings of punknews.org, Neko Case has posted her first single, "People Got a Lot of Nerve," on the Anti website (or you can just click her name. Its a great song that will be available until February 3, exactly a month before her new album, Middle Cyclone, drops. Read the links for information about how downloading this song also benefits the Best Friend's Animal Society.
January 18, 2009
I hit an updating wall the past couple weeks, but a not a whole lot has been going on. Propagandhi will be releasing Supporting Caste on March 10 through G7 Welcoming Committee and Smallman Records.
January 4, 2009
Watching "Nostradamus: 2012" is really scaring the daylights out of me. December 21, 2012 seems to be coming really quick, which may suck if these people and ancient cultures are right.
January 4, 2009
On a lighter note, Fake Problems have two songs posted on their Side One Dummy band page. These songs will be released on It's Great to Be Alive (odd due to the above post), which will be released on February 17. They're shooting a video for "The Dream Team" (which will also be available on a 7" which is out on January 20) on January 10 and will be touring with Murder by Death soon.
January 4, 2009
Fans that have been jonesing for a new season of Flight of the Conchords can check out the first episode here. Lots of laughs are to be had.
January 2, 2009
Being sick the past two days (a great way to start the new year), and stuck in bed watching TV, I did get some musical insight. Pete Seeger was probably the first straight edge musician, stating in the DVD documentary "Pete Seeger: The Power of Song" that he didn't drink or smoke. He also quit the uber popular folk quartet The Weavers because they were going to do a cigarette commercial because "they needed the money." He said that he "didn't need the money that bad" and left the band.
Also, Alice Cooper is one of the most enjoyable interviewees. Watching an E True Hollywood Story about the wives of musicians, Cooper was talking about divorce, making fun of musicians that get confused when they get divorced from their fourth stripper, by saying "What'd you expect, she's a stripper?"

To celebrate 20 years of being a band, the Bouncing Souls are releasing their song a month album, which is a pretty unique way to release music. The first song, "Gasoline," has already hit the internet, available for a $.99 download. I'd suggest paying the $11.99 up front to get all twelve songs (which will be released the first of each month), and then four bonus tracks at the end of the year. I look forward to seeing how this experiment turns out.
